Case study 3 - Proximus Overview of the client - Proximus: Belgacom Mobile is a subsidiary of Belgacom . Under the name of PROXIMUS, it markets the first GSM network developed in Belgium as well as the older analog mobile phone network Mob2. The pioneer of the Belgium GSM market, Belgacom Mobile is firmly intent on continuing its growth and remaining the undisputed leader by planning further improvements for what concerns the quality of calls and the geographical coverage. Operating as it does in the telecommunications services market, Proximus is a young, energetic company which employs approximately 1000 staff. Like any other company wanting to maximize its chances in a highly competitive market, Proximus makes every effort to rationalise the way it operates. In the middle of 1995, the expansion of its business and growth in its client base led the company to look for a fully integrated software solution. Solution: The decision to maximise operational integration and the implementation of the actual solution, everything went very quick at Proximus explains Chantal Dupuis, IT Financial & Logistics Manager at Belgacom Mobile. In the second half of 1995, Ernst & Young consultants were commissioned to handle the software selection based on the criteria defined by Proximus. In January 1996, Proximus opted for SAP and in particular for its Project Management, Finance, Materials Management and Sales & Distribution modules from the R/3 V 3.0 system. A month later, the company chose two external consultants to help the project through to completion. Around May, the team was boosted in size to include various members of Proximus staff. At the same time, the project was given the official blessing of the company’s management. The team was then in place and in possession of everything it needed to succeed. From that time on, the team also decided it would be best to work closely with the future key users of the system. They considered important that these users would be involved in the project from the start Key Success Points:
